SCHOOL NEWS It’s been a great, busy week here at LSL! Our 2 Year-Olds had a blast finger painting a friendship tree. You can see it hanging in the pick-up area. Our 3 and 4 Year-Olds have been exploring friendship art, creating portraits of themselves and learning about sorting and patterns. Everyone has been busy, learning, and having fun! Looking forward, we will be implementing some changes to the 3 and 4 year-old room. We will begin splitting the students for morning activities beginning next week. More information will be provided on this change later in the week. We are excited to focus on both groups specific needs! Our Afternoon Program is changing! Starting September 11th we will be running a BEAM Club Program in the afternoons. Students will participate in projects like cooking, STEM, Art, Music, and Physical Education. These clubs are a wonderful way to enhance your student’s education! If you would like to try out a free week, or for more information, see Mrs. Cunningham

4-Year-Old News This week we are learning the following objectives: I can listen and understand directions in a variety of situations. I can identify sizes (small, medium, and large) and put them in order I can associate parts of the body with each of the 5 senses and give examples I can discover what foods are healthy for my body. I can compare and contrast healthy and unhealthy foods I can use vocabulary words to describe different surfaces and objects. I can dance, sway, and clap to the beat of music. I will know that God provides for me and meets my needs.	3-Year-Old News This week we are learning the following objectives: I can listen and understand directions in a variety of situations. SCHOOL NEWS School is off to a great start this year!  Our students are learning the classroom routines and jumping into learning.  This week we will be focusing on Friendship.  Our teachers have planned lots of activities across our 8 domains to reinforce the theme.  It’s going to be a great week! Be sure to check Bright Wheel for classroom updates. Our afternoon program begins this week.  If you are not signed up, see Mrs. Cunningham to get signed up today!  This program is an excellent opportunity to enhance your child’s education.  We have three and five day programs available.    As we move forward with school please remember the following: Toilet Training and Behavior Policies need to be returned   Girls who come to school in dresses are encouraged to wear shorts under Please return the parent survey so we can better serve you! Take a moment to review the snack guidelines The Price of Tardiness Our school begins at 8:30.  5-10 minutes may seem like no time to us, but to your child’s education it’s valuable time. If you are 5 minutes late every day, you child has missed 25 minutes of instructional time in a week.  That adds up to 1 hour and 40 minutes each month!  Over the year, that adds up to 15 hours of lost instructional time each year!  If you are 10 minutes late, that doubles.  Our time in school is short and precious, please drop your child off on time. Gardening

From the Teachers: May 5 3’s/4’s Program This week in Prek 3-4 we learned about gardening. The students were able to plant real flowers in our garden by our playground, they created tulip gardens with forks in paint, they created their own bugs and enjoyed matching ladybugs to the correct numbers.  We read lots of books and learned that our fruits and vegetables grow in gardens.  Students learned a little about the water cycle and how it helps plants to grow and how our water is recycled over and over again.  We learned that bugs help our plants in many ways.  They also became familiar with  the life cycle of a butterfly.  On Friday, students talked about the Kentucky Derby, made and named their own horses, and then they ran a Derby of their own!   2’s Program This week in the two's room we talk about gardening and bugs! On Monday we got to paint with plastic bugs to see the different types of tracks they make. On Tuesday we had a fine motor day and sorted seeds and stuck fake flowers into colanders. On Wednesday we got to plant flowers next to our gate and we celebrated Nico's 4th birthday! On Thursday we sorted seeds again and then we painted with bell peppers and broccoli. On Friday we made a garden sticky wall where they added foam flowers and bugs. They love this activity!  Our Bible story this week was from the Pray and Play Bible 2 - Jesus is With Us.  Next week we will start counting down to our last day of school and we will be making some special gifts for our moms for Mother's Day!

From the Teachers: April 28, 2017 3’s/4’s Program We talked about and reviewed letters Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq and Rr and played our I spy game to find the letters within the text of our poems.  We have been working on counting to 100 by 1's, 5's and 10's, most of our students have this mastered!  Students have been enjoying lots of outdoor play, and this week we practiced moving like farm animals to help us get our wiggles out.  We created muddy pig art, footprint cows, chicks in eggs and fingerprint sheep. Students have also been practicing their sign language alphabet, and most can sign all of the letters as well as "next time won't you sing with me."  We have also learned to sign and sing "Jesus Loves Me."  On Friday we had a cooking experiment. We poured heavy whipping cream into a jar and shook it until we made our own butter! We had mixed reactions to our homemade butter. Six students liked it but 4 did not.  We are hard at work practicing for our Mother's Day program as well as our graduation program.  Please be sure to check out the quilt that is displayed in the PreK 3/4 classroom, we will raffle this quilt off at graduation.  Notes and tickets will be sent home soon!  This week in bible lessons we used our devotional and learned the following lessons: Monday – Worshipping together is good - Psalm 122:1 Tuesday - God wants to make you a new person- 2 Corinthians 5:17 Wednesday - Deuteronomy 30:20 Tells us to love the Lord your God…for He is your life! Thursday - God encourages us to ask him for help with planning - Proverbs 16:3 Friday - God never changes- Malachi 3:6 2’s Program This week in the two's room we talked about farm animals. And every day we acted like a different animal when walking to the sink to wash our hands! The kids loved acting like cows, sheep, horses, pigs, and chickens! On Monday we made cow faces with paper plates, on Tuesday we played outside and acted like all of the different animals you find on a farm. On Wednesday we made handprint roosters, on Thursday we made fingerprint sheep. On Friday we got to watercolor our own farm animal paper then Mrs. Galloup brought some animals from her farm! We got to pet her dog, Cooper, some chickens and chicks, kittens, and even a potbelly pig! The kids loved being able to see and pet them!  Our Bible story this week was from the Pray and Play Bible 2 - Daniel and His Friends Next week we will be talking all about gardening and bugs.

Easter

From the Teachers: April 13, 2017 3’s/4’s Program This week in PreK 3/4 we learned about Easter. We told the resurrection story using Easter eggs, and the class made an empty tomb pictures. We made a cross using our handprints and created stained glass eggs with a cross inside. We read many stories about the first Easter.  This was our focus for Bible stories as well.  We read the Easter story in a variety of books all week.  We also learned about Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey.  We reviewed the letters Ff, Gg and Hh this week as well.  Students also enjoyed playing outside each day this week!  Reminders: ·  No School tomorrow, Friday, April 14 ·  Easter Services on Sunday at GSLC.   ·  Sign-ups for Keeneland clean up dates and Saving for College workshop are in the back hallway!  2’s Program This week in the two's room we talked all about Easter and how Jesus died for us. Our Bible story for the week was from the Pray and Play Bible 2 - The Easter Story.  On Monday, we made our own cross "stained glass" pictures (see right), on Tuesday we painted with paint dotters. On Wednesday we got to paint with chalk paint - be sure to check it out on the sidewalk next to the playground! And on Thursday we used watercolor to see a picture drawn with white crayon! Everyone's picture was different.  Next week we will be talking about the rainforest!

PARENT RESOURCES EASTER Talk to your children about Easter. Jesus as our Savior! Easter is the celebration of Jesus Christ's rising from the dead (His Resurrection) after His crucifixion which took place on what we now term Good Friday. Easter is usually celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Vernal or Spring Equinox. Children need to know that dying was Jesus Christ's reason for living on earth. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead having defeated sin for us! As a parent, you can have the wonderful privilege of talking with your child about these important truths.	The Easter Gift is a book that was provided to you and your student from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. If you didn’t receive it before Easter, it will be waiting in your child’s cubby on Monday. This story helps us understand Jesus’ life and death.
