Thanks for a Great Year, Goodbyes and Summer Break

From the Teachers:
May 16-20
Thank you all so much for a very successful year.  It was a bittersweet goodbye for all of the teachers today.  We love seeing your children grow and learn new things but it is hard for us to say goodbye to them.  We love each student and are so very proud of their personal successes this year.  We have rejoiced with them for their ups and have cried with them during their low points.

This week we practiced a lot for graduation, and really just spent time playing and being together.  The family picnic was wonderful! Thank you for bringing so many yummy dishes to share with us!

I would encourage you to keep your children active over the summer break! Join a gymnastics class, swim lessons, karate, tee ball or some other sport to help them remain active and healthy.  I would also encourage you to participate in summer reading lists.  The public library usually has a great program,  and this would be a great tool for keeping their minds busy and learning! Here is the link: http://www.lexpublib.org/SummerReading

I truly hope each of you will consider our Summer Camp program for the week of June 13-17.  We would love to have them return to us for a week of learning and fun!

SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Play Dough Recipe
What you’ll need to make Homemade Playdough:
•1 cup flour
•1 cup water
•2 teaspoons cream of tartar (I highly recommend buying a large container; it’s much cheaper than the tiny ones from the grocery store!)
•1/3 cup salt
•1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
•food coloring

This easy homemade playdough recipe makes a large amount, probably equal to 2-3 containers from the store. So you might want to halve it or make it in 2 saucepans.
QUILT RAFFLE and END OF YEAR GIFTS
Thanks for all who participated in our Quilt Raffle!
We sold over 138 tickets!

We hope you enjoy your summer books and pillows provided by the school and church!

Practice praying the Lord’s Prayer with your child this summer:
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever.
Amen.

May 16 The Loving Father
Luke 15:11-24
Jesus told a parable about 2 sons. The father of the 2 sons divided the estate between the 2 sons. The first son squandered his inheritance and thought only about himself. The other son stayed and worked for his father and continued to help the household. The first son lost all he had and came back to his father and admitted he sinned. The father loved both sons equally, and he celebrated the son that was lost and then returned!
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. God celebrates when we turn to Him; for He loved us so much He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins!
May 17One Man Thanks Jesus
Luke 17:11-19
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[a] met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
May 18 –  Jesus Loves Children
Mark 10:13-16
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
May 19 –  A Rich Man’s Question
Luke 18:18-27
18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]
21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
